What foods are included and excluded on a typical paleo meal plan?

Here are some foods you will avoid with a paleo meal plan:
  • Grains
  • Legumes including beans, lentils, and soy products
  • Refined sugar and artificial sweeteners
  • Vegetable oils such as canola, soy, corn, and grapeseed
  • Packaged and processed foods
  • Dairy* (though many paleo diet peeps allow for ghee)

  A typical meal on a good paleo meal plan will include:   

Vegetables – Aim to fill half of your plate with non-starchy greens veggies

Animal protein – 1-2 palm-sized portions of meat, fish or poultry or 2-4 eggs

Healthy fats such as avocado, nut butters, olive oil, coconut oil, or lard, or tallow

Starchy vegetables, fruit, or nuts – optional addition

While there are loose “rules” for the paleo diet, it’s important to remember that the person that ultimately should make decisions about what you eat is YOU. So if you want to add potatoes, white rice, and other non-paleo food, to your paleo meal plan, that is your call.
