Curious about AIP meal plans? Short for the paleo autoimmune protocol, AIP is a specialized version of the paleo diet, designed to address autoimmune conditions by reducing inflammation throughout the body and healing the gut.
With AIP, the following foods are removed for approximately 30 days to 6 months:
- Known food sensitivities
- Processed foods
- Poor fats – including canola oil, corn oil, cottonseed oil, all hydrogenated (trans) fats, safflower oil, soybean oil, and vegetable oil
- All grains
- Alcohol* – however, alcohol is allowed for cooking purposes as the alcohol cooks off
- Nuts and seeds*
- Nightshades* – including eggplant, white potatoes, tobacco, tomato, all peppers
- Fruit spices* – such as peppercorns, star anise, cardamom, juniper, and vanilla beans
*These foods are eliminated in AIP, but not the paleo diet
With more and more people being diagnosed with autoimmune conditions, and scant medical information about how to treat them, people are taking matters into their own hands. AIP is ideal for people who are not getting the results you want on your healing journey or don’t want to go the conventional route, typically involving medications.
